The chapel in the park of the summer residence of the Benedictine nuns in in Panenské Břežany was built between 1705 and 1707 and is the first entirely original project by Jan Santini Aichel.
Jan Blažej Santini Aichel (3 February 1677- 7 December 1723) was a Czech architect with Italian roots. His major works represent a unique combination of the Baroque and Gothic styles.
Due to a physical handicap, he could not become a stonemason like his father. Instead, he studied painting. Young Santini began to work independently from 1700, after his return from Italy.
The Chapel of St. Anne is one of the oldest examples of Santini´s radial composition which culminated in the Pilgrimage Church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelená hora hill.
